ACCA - The global body for professional accountants

Are you a school leaver?  Before you start studying with ACCA, you’ll need to choose which qualification is right for you. That will depend on what qualifications you have already. You will either start with one of the qualifications in Foundations in Accountancy, or with the ACCA Qualification. Read on to find out which one is most suitable for you.

Foundations in Accountancy

These introductory qualifications are perfect for you if you are a school leaver with no formal qualifications or experience of working in accountancy and finance.
These awards have difficulty levels between GCSE level and a degree or HND programme, We recommend you start with the Introductory Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting if you have no formal qualifications.

The Foundations in Accountancy awards will qualify you to work in a range of different jobs - depending on how many of the qualifications you successfully complete. With the first award, Introductory Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting, you will be able to work in a number of junior accounting or bookkeeping roles, and with a full Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) Qualification you could work in a finance supervisory or management role.

To find out more about all of these awards and decide which is most suitable for you, visit the Foundations in Accountancy page in the related links section to the left-hand side.

The ACCA Qualification

If you are a school leaver with a minimum of three GCSEs and two A Levels, in five separate subjects including maths and English or if you have equivalent qualifications, you can choose to study for the ACCA Qualification.

The difficulty level of the ACCA Qualification is similar to degree level when you take the Fundamentals level (the first nine papers). When you take the Professionals level, it is equivalent to a master’s degree.
Once you have successfully completed your exams, ethics module and work experience, you will be able to work as a professional accountant.
