CAAT 24 hour self assessment authorisation

HMRC has announced that the Central Agent Authorisation Team (CAAT) will now aim to process forms 64-8 within 24 hours of receipt.

This should mean that agents will now be able to discuss a client’s tax affairs with HMRC within a day of HMRC receiving the form 64-8. It should be noted, however, that updating HMRC’s electronic systems, eg enabling online filing and the ability to view taxpayer statements, generally takes longer to update. HMRC stated aim is to ensure full access to electronic services for a client within 72 hours of receiving form 64-8.
