2013: Financial reporting for an open world

ACCA’s 5th International Public Sector Conference: Financial Reporting for an Open World – 5 December 2013

There was much excitement at this year’s conference as speakers from around the world came together to discuss how public bodies could improve accountability and transparency through better financial reporting.

A range of topical issues were discussed, from the direction of travel of countries adopting public sector accounting standards (IPSASs) to European accounting standards developments, integrated reporting and Big Data. The key themes throughout the day focused on accountability and transparency being critical for promoting public trust.

Anthony Harbinson, deputy president of ACCA, opened the conference.  He stressed that public sector finance professionals have an important role as custodians of the reputation of this essential sector.
