Benefits of planning

Prioritising study planning is important for your ACCA study journey. We know that ACCA students have busy lives with many competing commitments including work deadlines and family or social commitments. You also need to make some time to look after your mental and physical wellbeing and by planning out your time and priorities, you can keep focussed and on track.

There will be times when you will lack motivation to study. This is natural and is also when a strong study plan will be most valuable. This will also keep you organised if you need to flex your plans because of unexpected commitments or bumps in the road.

Ultimately, you’re more likely to succeed if you have a realistic study plan – but it’s also going to be beneficial for your general wellbeing. Effective study planning can help you feel organised and in control and will help you get into the right headspace to tackle everything else that’s going on.  

Quick tips to get you started:

  • Start by blocking out time between now and exam day when you know you'll not be available to study
  • Review the suggested initial tasks and then set your own milestones
  • Be realistic and consider when you are best able to study – maybe early mornings work better for you or perhaps shorter, more frequent study periods throughout the day
  • Consider building in an extra study period after every few chapters to review and consolidate your learning
  • Take a 5-10 minute break every hour to help maintain motivation and concentration
  • Once you have prepared your plan - try to stick to it where possible
  • But review your plan weekly to make sure you are on track - and then make any necessary adjustments
