Understanding the senior accounting officer experience
Finance Act 2025 makes major changes to the tax rules for ‘non-doms’. From 6 April 2025, the long-standing non-domicile (non-dom) regime, along with the remittance basis of taxation, is abolished.
This article should be read in conjunction with Part 1 – The end of non-domicile status.
The government recognises that some individuals will be adversely affected by the removal of the remittance basis. To provide a smoother transition, a number of temporary measures will be introduced.
Employment Allowance (EA) is a relief available to eligible employers in the UK, allowing them to reduce their annual national insurance contributions (NICs) by up to £10,500 (£5,000 up to 2024/25). However, where companies are under common control, or are 'connected', specific rules apply that may limit or restrict eligibility.
HMRC is hosting a series of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax events at HMRC offices across the UK this year. Agents and software developers are welcome to attend one of these sessions to help prepare for when MTD for Income Tax becomes a legal requirement in April 2026.
