The 'Employee shareholders scheme' was introduced on 1 September 2013 by the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act 2013. The idea behind it was to create a new class of employee who would have a stake in the company, but not enjoy the same employment rights as normal employees. [Updated November 2014]
