Overview

There is a growing international movement looking at value based healthcare and health outcomes.  This session will explore the key components of value based healthcare and how it is being used in practice in NHS Wales.  It will cover the importance of measuring health outcomes and the ways in which a focus on outcomes can be used to provide more informed financial strategies and decision making. Finally the session will cover early lessons from applying value based healthcare in practice and some of the professional issues for finance staff.

Speaker details

Stuart Davies FCCA is a Director of Finance from NHS Wales.  He is currently director of finance of Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee responsible for commissioning specialised services for the population of Wales.  He has over 20 experience in commissioning specialised services in a variety of organisations.  Earlier career experience included a director level post in a Community and Mental Health Trust in Wales and assistant director level roles in an acute trust, a Regional Health Authority and local government.  Since 2017 Stuart has been the finance director member of the NICE Highly Specialised Services Committee.  Particular subject interests include medicines appraisal, advanced therapeutics and genetic services.  He qualified with ACCA in 1989.
