Universal Credit is being introduced in stages across the country and the guidance has once again been updated.
The guidance aimed at employers focuses on the importance of real-time information (RTI).
The guidance aimed at the self-employed contains information for start-ups and details regarding the ‘minimum income floor’.
The start-up guidance highlights that ‘to help your new business grow, Universal Credit provides a 12 month start up period.’
It goes on to state that:
- it applies if the business is less than 12 months old
- recipients will not have to look for other paid work
- one start-up period is allowed every five years, providing all the other eligibility criteria are met.
