The Foundation-level qualifications  - referred to collectively as Foundations in Accountancy - are suitable for you if you’re just starting out in finance. Or, if you work in finance but have no professional qualification to show for your experience yet.

HOW DIFFICULT IS IT?

The foundation-level qualifications are broadly equivalent to the following:

Introductory Certificate in Financial
and Management Accounting
GCSE standard or equivalent
Intermediate Certificate in Financial
and Management Accounting
A-level standard or equivalent
Diploma in Accounting and BusinessFirst year of a degree programme or HND standard or equivalent
Foundation Diploma (Pakistan and Bangladesh only)First year of a degree programme or HND standard or equivalent
Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) QualificationFirst year of a degree programme or HND standard or equivalent

WHAT KIND OF WORK CAN I DO WITH THIS QUALIFICATION?

You could work in a variety of accounts-support roles including:

  • a junior accounts or cost clerk/junior bookkeeper role in an small or medium-sized enterprise
  • a range of junior or cost accounting administration roles within an accounting department of a larger organisation or financial shared service centre.
