Louise Morriss FCCA

Louise Morriss is Managing Director at ZEDRA Group
My inspiration for a profession in financial services started during a week of work experience at school – a long time ago! When I left school, I then took an undergrad apprenticeship at the Bank of England within the foreign exchange desk, which sparked my interest into a career in the accountancy profession and global expansion.
My background is UK audit, which I am still very much involved in today, although my role is now focused on management strategy and growth, as well as people and progression within my team. I enjoy the leadership aspect of my role - providing opportunity to my team to progress, develop and grow in their chosen career path, and seeing the end results of the team’s hard work to achieve their exam results and qualification.
"One of the biggest challenges for the sector, I believe, still firmly sit with finding and retaining talent. As AI develops, this could also be seen as a challenge to the financial sector, although I do feel the efficiency it creates for leaders to focus on the more strategic thought process of their business is invaluable."
For clients, regulatory requirements, and the cost of running a business continue to increase. It becomes ever more important to monitor budgets, growth, productivity, and quality of service. Being ahead of the curve of technology needs and cyber security is an evolving and demanding landscape.
Outside of work, I make time to recharge by going to the gym, taking walks with my cockapoos, and spending quality time with my family. It is important to find time to relax, mute the emails, and close the laptop so you can give yourself, your family, and your team the best.
If I could offer one piece of advice to other finance professionals, it would be to ensure you continue to monitor the employee landscape in your chosen profession to provide your staff with competitive salary, benefits, and an achievable work-life balance. Build your own resilience by stepping outside your comfort zone - be that travelling, learning a new skill, or embarking on a new hobby which can enhance or develop your own personal goals.
