Over the last 17 years of working in Audit Scotland, I have been involved in financial audit within Local and Central Government and the NHS. I am currently the Associate Director of Audit Quality and Appointments and have been responsible for developing an audit quality framework that covers all audit work and auditors. Having such a comprehensive framework for audit quality enables us to provide assurance to our stakeholders and demonstrate the strengths of our public audit model in Scotland. We are not complacent however and adopt a continuous improvement approach in line with our world-class ambition. I report to the Chief Operating Officer but work with colleagues within Audit Scotland and the private firms across financial, performance and best value audits on quality matters.

I started my career in a small CA practice and moved into finance in the NHS before joining Audit Scotland.

As auditors we need to keep up to date with developments and understand the impact on public services and how our work as external auditors can add value and contribute to good and efficient public services – this is part of my reason for joining the Committee. I also wanted to raise the profile of ACCA within the public sector.
