ACCA talks to FRC CEO Richard Moriarty
In March, ACCA held a fascinating session with Richard Moriarty, CEO of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC).
In a wide-ranging discussion with Maggie McGhee, ACCA’s executive director – strategy and governance, Richard outlined how the FRC’s role and powers will change over the next few years, as the regulatory landscape evolves after the UK government announcement earlier this year that the transition to become the Audit, Reporting and Governance Authority (ARGA) would be paused.
Other issues discussed included:
- the key priorities shaping the FRC’s future direction
- forthcoming changes in UK corporate reporting and audit and how these can support confidence and sustainable growth across the UK
- the vital and valuable role that professional accountants play in helping organisations adapt to the evolving expectations around governance, reporting, and assurance
- how can the UK distinguish itself as a global destination of choice for good corporate governance and sensible regulation
- how the FRC is being innovative in its use of technology including the use of AI
- developments internationally in areas such as sustainability reporting and assurance
- how the FRC is working to reset the annual report, to ensure it is comprehensive but also relevant and informative to a range of stakeholders.
Members within the corporate reporting and audit fields will find these discussions insightful.
