Accessibility at ACCA

We are committed to making our digital services accessible to everyone, regardless of ability, device, or assistive technology.

Our websites are designed and developed to be inclusive, usable, and compliant with recognised accessibility standards. Accessibility is an ongoing process, and we continue to improve our digital experiences over time.

Our accessibility standards

We aim to ensure our websites and digital services:

  • Conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA
  • Support accessibility requirements under the European Accessibility Act (EAA)
  • Follow best practice guidance for inclusive design and development

These standards help ensure our content can be accessed using assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice input, and keyboard navigation.

How we support accessibility

We design and build our digital experiences to support accessibility in the following ways:

Content and structure

  • Clear, consistent page layouts and navigation
  • Meaningful headings and page structure
  • Plain language where possible

Images and media

  • Images include appropriate alternative text where they convey information
  • Decorative images are hidden from assistive technologies
  • Videos include captions or transcripts where required

Visual design

  • Sufficient colour contrast between text and background
  • Information is not conveyed by colour alone
  • Content adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels

Navigation and interaction

  • Pages can be navigated using a keyboard
  • Interactive elements have clear labels and focus states
  • Forms include clear instructions and error messages

Known limitations

While we work to ensure accessibility across our digital estate, some older content or third-party tools may not yet fully meet all accessibility requirements.

We actively review and prioritise improvements as part of our ongoing accessibility programme.

Accessibility and continuous improvement

Accessibility is embedded in our design, development, and publishing processes and forms part of our wider Digital Experience Framework.

We regularly review our standards, tools, and content to ensure we continue to meet user needs and regulatory requirements.
