For more than 10 years now, I have worked in a handful of industries starting from audit and now in commercial finance. My collated experience and knowledge allows me to successfully fulfill my responsibilities as a Senior Finance Manager for an Oil and Gas company. ACCA provided me with a good foundation in the world of finance/accounting which helped lead to many new interesting career branches or choices e.g. corporate finance, M&A, treasury, project management etc.

I am proud to know that the ACCA community is global and does many initiatives to equip members with the right tools, insights, and connections to excel in their careers.

My path to the ACCA qualification and becoming a Public Accountant was unconventional - and a testament to my determination.

While pursuing a BSc in Chemistry at NUS, I enrolled in the ACCA program. I began my career at the Bank of New York Mellon, before making a decisive move into the audit profession - where I have built over 12 years of experience, first with Ernst & Young LLP and currently, BDO LLP.

I currently serve on the Management Committee of the Anglo-Chinese School Old Boys’ Association, supporting the Treasurer.

Standing as a candidate for the 2025 ACCA Members Network Panel, I hope to contribute to our accountancy community that has shaped my professional journey.

If elected, my key priorities are:

• Enhancing ACCA’s visibility in Singapore;
• Driving members engagement and career support; and
• Advocating continuous upskilling and holistic professional development.

I recently participated in a global ACCA roundtable on 2025 talent trends and I look forward to collaborating with ACCA, industry partners and fellow members to shape impactful strategies that strengthen the value of the ACCA qualification and membership.

William is Group CFO of SGX Mainboard-listed Tiong Woon Corporation and serves as Lead Independent Director and Audit Committee Chair for another SGX-listed company. He has held CFO roles at four SGX-listed firms and was an auditor at KPMG.

An-engineer-turned-accountant — graduating with Honours from NUS — he “stumbled” into accounting, crediting ACCA for “saving his life” in more ways than one. William is active in the ACCA community, currently serving on the ACCA Singapore Network Panel, the ACCA Accountants for Business Global Forum, and the ITE Technical Committee for the Work-Study Diploma in Accountancy. He previously served on the ACCA SME Finance Transformation Committee and was Club Secretary for the ACCA Singapore Mandarin Toastmasters Club.

Passionate about mentoring, William finds purpose in nurturing future finance leaders, many of whom have become CFOs themselves. He holds a First-Class Honours BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University and an MBA from Manchester Business School.
