What happens if I have attended my examinations but it has been affected by illness or other factors?
ACCA recognises that there may be students who experience difficult circumstances, circumstances of this nature may include but not limited to:
- Recent bereavement
- Severe illness prior to or during exam sitting
- Immediate care of a relative with a severe illness or circumstances
- Technical issue
If this is the case for you and you feel the circumstance has affected your performance during your exam, please inform ACCA by submitting details of your mitigating circumstances via the Exams section of your MyACCA portal.
It is extremely important for you to provide any documentary evidence relating to your personal circumstances (where applicable), for consideration to be given. You may upload this with your Mitigating Circumstance submission via MyACCA.
Examples of documentary evidence may include but not limited to:
- Medical letter or official certificate
- Incident reports
Please note ACCA will also review internal information in relation to technical issues in order to understand issues that have impacted your exam.
You must submit your mitigating circumstances 16 March 2021 for consideration to be given.
Please note that unfortunately additional supporting evidence in relation to your mitigating circumstance will not be accepted for consideration after the above closing date.
Due to the flexible availability of on-demand computer based exams (CBEs), students affected by personal circumstances likely to impact their exam performance will not be eligible to submit a request under this policy. CBE students are advised to re-schedule their exam to a more convenient time. Any problems experienced at an on-demand exam centre should be taken up with the CBE centre personnel directly.
If I don’t believe my circumstances have been fully considered prior to the finalisation of my result, what are my options?
If on receipt of your examination result if you believe that ACCA has not applied its procedures properly, you may appeal to the Examinations Appeals Committee.
To do this, you should email your appeal request to ExamsOperationsServices@accaglobal.com as outlined in your mitigating circumstances acknowledgment email. The relevant fee will then be raised on your account which must be paid online prior to the appeal submission deadline.
The appeal fee is £30 and the appeal submission deadline for the March 2021 session is 12 May . Your request to appeal will then be forwarded to the Committee for consideration.
You will receive an email providing you with the outcome of your mitigating circumstances appeal on the date specified in your mitigating circumstances appeal acknowledgment email, which will be sent to you upon receipt of your appeal fee. Please note that the committee meeting takes place once per session, as such it is not possible to consider any appeals beyond the submission deadline, nor is it possible to provide you with an outcome of your appeal prior to the date specified in your mitigating circumstances appeal acknowledgment email.
ACCA’s appeals process is not a re-consideration of your circumstances and you will not receive any detail on the consideration given, such as awarded marks. Additional documentation or information on your circumstances cannot be submitted at this time. The Committee will undertake independent checks to confirm all stages of the mitigating circumstances process were undertaken and the correct mark was in fact issued to you.
