Overview

This session will look at claims occurring most frequently in the Accountancy profession as well as higher value claims and how these claims could have been avoided, if at all. We’ll also look at comparisons between claims against accountants and other professionals.

John Eastlake - Partner, Caytons

John has specialised in insurance, and professional liability specifically, since qualifying in 1992. He joins Caytons from DWF Law LLP in Bristol where he was a Partner. Prior to this, John was a Partner at both Clyde & Co and Kennedys Law LLP in London for 14 years, heading up the London professional indemnity team.

John has advised insurers and their insureds on a wide range of professional liability claims against lawyers, including those involving commercial and residential property, probate, tax, pensions, and corporate finance. He has managed claims against all manner of firms from sole practitioners to magic circle.

A large part of John’s practice relates to construction claims, including acting for D&C contractors and professional project team members. In this regard, he has handled claims arising out of major commercial and public projects.

John has considerable experience managing claims against ‘traditional’ professionals such as accountants, brokers, IFAs and surveyors. He has also managed claims against ‘new’ professionals such as business consultants, web designers, environmental consultants, estate and letting agents, and educational professionals.

He also advises on policy coverage issues and policy disputes, and regulatory and risk management issues.

John has extensive experience in advising insurers on coverage issues arising from claims made on professional indemnity and management liability/D&O policies.
