We’ve established our baseline carbon footprint

This follows a detailed exercise across our 57 offices across the world, which will enable us to measure our progress so we can move ahead on our net zero journey with transparency and integrity. We’ve adopted a science-based approach to measurement.

We’re targeting a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2045

Improvements in measuring net zero agreed on at COP26 have led us to reassess our methodology and original aim of achieving net zero by 2030. Our new targets are designed to be transparent and meaningful, and are based on the latest science-based best practice.

Our targets have been verified by the Science Based Targets initiative

The SBTi applies independent testing to net-zero targets in line with climate science. We’re delighted to have received its verification of our targets in December 2023 following a period of defining, shaping and measuring.

We’re looking at all our activities with net zero in mind

Covid-19 has driven a substantial reduction in our carbon footprint and we’re focusing on long-term business strategies that maintain and build on this, and drive forward inclusion. This includes holding more exams and events online, and developing a more sustainable approach to our offices and ways of working. We’re also working to integrate our net zero ambitions across our supply chain and prioritise the use of renewable energy.

We’re supporting our members and wider community on their net zero journeys

We continue to work towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals and mobilise our members and future members in becoming sustainable business and finance professionals through our qualification and CPD activities, so they can play effective roles in the journey towards net zero. We’re also working towards net zero through our influencing, research and policy work, including our Accounting for a Better World agenda for action, and supporting the development of international sustainability reporting standards.
