We'd like your exam day to go as smoothly as possible. To give yourself the best chance of a successful exam experience, please follow our exam day related guidance we've provided below.
Before check-in
Complete your checks again
Make sure your equipment, internet connectivity and exam environment meets the rules and requirements advised in Section 1: "Before you book" in the days leading up to your exam. Ensure you have also passed the mandatory system test ahead of starting the check-in process. This is important as your computer settings or connectivity may have changed or been updated since you booked your exam.
Review our troubleshooting guidance page in advance of your exam to minimise the risk of technical issues disrupting your exam day.
Close down all other applications and any VPN connection
To comply with the exam regulations, all other non exam-related applications running on your device must be closed and you must not use a VPN connection. Ensure that you have administrator access rights on your device to allow you to close applications and turn off any VPN connection. Should you not be able to turn off any non exam-related application, you will not be able to take the exam.
Close open applications, by accessing Task Manager and ending these tasks. For more support with this step watch our video.
Watch how to close background applications

During your remote session exam, all applications must be fully shut down except on view.

This video will show Windows and Mac users how to close applications running in the background before entering your remote session exam.

During check in, you'll be asked to test your system for any applications running in the background.

If applications are open in the background, you must close these before selecting Next.

If you select Next and have not closed the open applications, you will be presented with a warning.

After you've closed all open applications except on view, select Resolve Issues and Retest.

Windows users can close background applications from the task manager.

There are two ways to access the Task manager.

Hold down the control, Alt and Delete keys on your keyboard.

Then select Task Manager, or alternatively, right click on your desktop toolbar.

In this video demonstration, we're going to look at the second option.

Right click on your desktop toolbar and select Task Manager.
[1:22]
Select the application you want to shut down and then select End Task.
[1:30]
Repeat these steps for any other applications you may have open and remember do not close on view.

If the application continues to relaunch, find and disable the application from the Startup tab.
[1:48]
Then close the Task manager and return to your exam.
[1:54]
Now let's look at closing background applications for Mac users.

There are two ways to close background applications on a Mac, either from the Force Quit application or from the Activity Monitor application.

Let's start with the first option to close applications.

From the Force Quit option, select the Apple icon, then choose Force Quit.
[2:22]
Choose the application you want to close, then select Force Quit and then Force Quit again.
[2:31]
Alternatively, you can close applications from the Activity Monitor application, select the magnifying glass and search Activity Monitor.
[2:44]
Choose the CPU tab, search for the application you want to close, close the application by highlighting it, and then select the X button at the top of the screen to close it.

Lastly, select quit.
[3:06]
Now close the Activity monitor and return to your exam.

Plug your device into a power source
If you are using a laptop device you should ensure that it is fully charged and plugged into a power source ahead of the exam.
During check-in
When to start check-in process
You will only be able to launch your exam 30 minutes before your exam start time. It can take up to 15 minutes to complete check-in so it's important to be ready to start your exam on time.
The 'Launch' button will appear in 'Your Plan' within Exam Planner at 00:00 (BST) on the day of the exam. To access 'Your Plan', log into myACCA, select ‘book an exam’, and select ‘Your Plan’.
How to check-in to your remote session exam

Before starting your exam on exam day, ensure you set your work area up as required, including connecting to a power source by plugging in your laptop or PC charger before your exam starts and remove any unauthorised items from your work area.

Complete the mandatory system test.

Take a bathroom break before your exam starts as you're only permitted to take one five minute bathroom break during your exam.

Select Launch Exam Your exam will only launch 30 minutes in advance of your scheduled exam start time.

If you try to start your exam more than 30 minutes before or 15 minutes after your appointment time, your exam will not launch.

For regulatory requirements, we need to collect information on how you studied for your exam.

You'll need to do this for every exam.

During each exam session, identify your method of study.

Select the country you studied in from the drop down menu.

Choose your learning provider from the drop down menu.

If your learning provider is not listed, please type their name into the other provider name box and tick the box on screen.

If you completed your method of studies over four months ago, then select Save and Confirm before you start the check in process.

Remember to take a bathroom break and when you're ready, select Check in.

You're about to download the Onview exam software, however, you must first read and agree to the following statements on screen.

Failure to meet these expectations will result in you being turned away from your exam or your exam may be revoked.

On view will now check your equipment.

Select Start Microphone, Check and speak clearly and loudly enough until the bar turns green.

Check when you can hear the music, select Yes.
[4:29]
Lastly select Start webcam.

Check if you can see yourself, then your webcam is working.
[4:37]
Select Next to continue on view will now check your Internet connection.
[4:44]
Once this is complete, select Next to continue.
[4:49]
Enter your telephone number then select Next.
[4:53]
Please ensure this is entered correctly as this is the number the invigilator will try to contact you on.

Should you encounter any technical issues during your exam, you'll now be prompted to take photographs.

You can do this with your webcam or your mobile phone.

Option one, scan the QR code using the camera on your mobile device and complete check in via your mobile web browser.

Option 2 Enter your mobile telephone number, tick the I accept the terms and conditions box, then press send.

You'll then receive a URL link to complete check in from your mobile web browser.

Enter the web address on screen into your mobile web browser.
[5:45]
Then use your access code to complete check in.
[5:49]
If you don't have a mobile device, you can complete check in using the webcam on your desktop computer.

After your mobile device detects the QR code, select the URL link or if using an Android, select Open in browser.

Select Enter Access Code to manually enter your access code, or select Scan QR Code to scan the QR code on your computer screen.

If you selected Enter Access Code, type this now into the box provided, then select Continue.

You'll now be asked to take photos using the camera on your mobile device.

Select Continue, select Take Front, then take a photo of your face using the camera on your mobile device.

Make sure your face is within the Oval.
[7:02]
Your face must be in focus and well lit and most importantly, your face must match your ID.

Choose the identification type from the options available.

If you're using a driving licence, select driving licence.
[7:18]
If you're using a passport, select Passport and if you're using any other forms of ID, select Other Government photo ID.

Choose your country from the drop down, then select Continue.

Select Take Front.
[7:33]
Then take a photo of your identification using the camera on your mobile device and repeat this step for the back of your ID.

Make sure the photo is clear and well lit and your ID must be in English.

Ensure you've completed the actions on screen to prepare your workspace before continuing.
[7:54]
Remove any prohibited items from your workspace, including any scrap paper.
[7:59]
No paper or pens are allowed on your desk.
[8:03]
You will now take 4 pictures of your workspace.
[8:06]
Select Take Front to begin.
[8:09]
The whole workspace must be clearly visible and include the whole computer and the area around it.
[8:15]
There must be no unauthorised items on your desk or within arm's reach.
[8:24]
For your back photo, the invigilator must be able to see your desk, plus everything on the desk and the view behind to ensure your setup meet the exam rules and regulations.
[8:38]
For your left photo, the invigilator must see the whole workspace from the left side, including the computer, desk and contents on the desk, and any authorised items such as a calculator or a glass of water.
[8:54]
For your right photo, the invigilator must see the whole workspace from the right side.
[8:59]
This includes the computer, desk and contents on the desk and any authorised items such as a calculator or a glass of water.

When you've finished, select Continue.
[9:13]
Place your mobile phone on silent mode and out of arms reach, then return to your computer and select Refresh to complete check in.

Read the testing rules agreement again.
[9:28]
We recommend you take a break before you check in.
[9:31]
However, you can take 1 bathroom break of up to 5 minutes during the exam.
[9:36]
Before doing so, use the chat function to advise the invigilator that you're leaving your desk to use the bathroom.
[9:43]
You don't need to ask for permission, but you must inform the invigilator on your return.
[9:48]
Remember, you must be visible to the camera at all times during your exam and you must not talk out loud, which includes reading questions out loud.
[9:57]
No unauthorised person is allowed in your room and you should also make sure there is no noise, music or voices heard from other rooms as this will breach the exam rules and regulations.

Confirm you understand your exam may be revoked if you break any of these rules by ticking the box highlighted on screen.

Select next to continue on view will now check for any applications open in the background.
[10:24]
Select Test Having applications running in the background will prevent your exam from running, so it's important that these are closed and not minimised.
[10:34]
If you have any applications open, you will receive a warning message.
[10:39]
You must close these background applications before selecting Resolve Issues and Retest.
[10:45]

If there are no more applications open, select Next to Continue.

On View will now check your system's video streaming capability.
[11:05]
If on View detects an issue with your video stream, select the Troubleshoot Streaming link on screen for more support to resolve the issue before selecting Test Video stream again.

Once you can see yourself in the video stream, select Yes, then click Next to Continue.
[11:24]
The check in process is now completed.
[11:27]
You will be placed into a queue while your submitted details and photographs are verified ahead of your exam launching.
[11:34]
Your exam will be launched by the greeter.
[11:37]
If there are any problems with your photos, the greeter will contact you.
[11:42]
Before your exam is launched, you'll receive this message.
[11:48]
This step can take up to two minutes to load depending on your device, and if there's a problem with launching your exam, you'll need to close the On View exam software and reopen it from your Downloads folder.

Please ensure you close all applications except on view and disconnect from any VPNs before attempting to launch your exam.
[12:11]
And remember, before you click End Exam, make sure you've checked all of your answers.
[12:16]
Only click End Exam when you've finished your exam and your exam time has ended, as once submitted you won't be able to go back in.
[12:24]
This means you won't be able to answer any questions you missed or change any of your answers.

You'll need photographic ID
You will need to present official government issued photographic ID as proof of your identity. We recommend using English language ID if you have this available as this will speed up your check-in. The following forms of ID are accepted:
- Valid passport
- Driving licence
- National ID card
- Biometric residence permit
ID’s must be original and valid – photocopies, digital versions and/or documents that have expired will not be accepted.
Failure to provide valid identification will result in your exam being revoked and you will be unable to sit.
You'll need your mobile phone
Following the on-screen instructions, you'll be asked to take and upload photos using your phone of your exam environment, yourself and your ID.

Once you have completed this process you should put your phone on silent before placing it out of arm's reach.
You will be asked to enter your mobile phone number which may be used by the invigilator to contact you during the exam if you experience technical issues. For more information on what to expect from your invigilator and how to contact them your exam please visit our troubleshooting guidance.
It is important that you do not use your mobile phone for any other purpose during the exam. Taking photos of your screen or making calls during the exam is strictly prohibited under any circumstance and will be treated as student misconduct.
How to check-in for your exam
During your exam
Once your exam has started we want you to be able to perform to your potential. To ensure all students receive a fair and equal exam, you'll be supervised by an invigilator throughout.
Being under exam conditions
You'll be expected to adhere to all the rules and regulations of the exam and in accordance with our Qualification Integrity principles for the entire duration of the exam. This means:
- No one else being either present in your room or audible outside your room.
- Not talking aloud during your exam.
- No unauthorised items being on your desk (such as paper).
- Not leaving or ending the exam early.
Requesting a bathroom break
You can take one bathroom break of up to 5 minutes during the exam. If you require a comfort break you should
1) Request a chat with your invigilator by clicking the speech bubble at the top of your screen.
2) Once the invigilator has opened up the chatbox, you should tell them that you are leaving your desk to use the bathroom. You do not need to wait for their response before leaving your desk.
3) Once you've returned use the chat function again to let the invigilator know you have returned. They may wish to verify your ID once you return.
The exam is not paused during a comfort break and the exam timer will continue to run. Unfortunately, if you do not return within 5 minutes your exam may be terminated.
Finishing your exam
For exam security purposes, you are not allowed to leave the exam environment and must remain under the invigilator's supervision until the full alloted exam time has expired. Once you have finished your exam you should remain seated until the exam time has completely elapsed.
After your exam
Your exam will automatically be sent to us
Please be assured that all students who attempt their exam will have their answers sent to ACCA within 72 hours of their exam finishing. For peace of mind, this confirmation is displayed as 'Exam attempted' within Your Plan once it has been received by ACCA. Watch our "Check your exam has been submitted" video should you wish to check this for your yourself.

Select Book an Exam While you're connected to your exam, your progress is regularly saved and once your exam is submitted, you'll find confirmation on your exam planner.
