New quarterly call for ACCA Scotland
We’re introducing a new regular discussion series aimed at members in Scotland who work in practice and in business. The calls will provide an opportunity to connect with fellow professionals, share feedback and ideas, and stay informed about the latest trends shaping Scotland’s business and economic landscape. Coming shortly after the new UK government's first budget, and in the run up to the Scottish budget, our first call in mid-November will focus on reaction and feedback about these major fiscal events. ACCA calls for Scottish government to increase charity audit income threshold
Just before the summer break ACCA held a virtual discussion with around 30 members, from practice and the charity sector, and the Scottish Government to discuss proposals to increase the audit threshold for charities from the current level of £500,000. Members participating in the call all agreed that an increase was required, given feedback about the difficulty some charities appear to have finding an auditor.
Read our response to the consultation. ACCA is now working with the Scottish government, OSCR and other stakeholders to provide additional feedback on proposals; please get in touch if you’ve any feedback, especially on capacity and appetite among practitioners in Scotland to take on more charity clients for independent examination.
New Scottish tax strategy
The government’s planned tax strategy for Scotland – delayed due to the General Election – is now due to be published alongside the Scottish Budget in early December. The strategy is intended to set out a longer-term plan for Scottish taxes, including how to maximise certainty for taxpayers, as well as tax revenue, while minimising negative impacts on business and investment.
ACCA is involved in a number of discussions about the strategy – if you have thoughts, let us know.
