Session three (14:00-15:30): Solving formula problems in Excel
We’ve all been there. A formula that worked yesterday suddenly returns an error. A number does not quite look right. Or worse, everything looks fine, but something is off and you cannot see why.
This practical workshop is designed for accountants and analysts who want to get better at diagnosing and fixing formula problems in Excel. Rather than focusing on individual functions, the session is about building a clear, logical approach to troubleshooting so you can stay in control when things go wrong.
You will learn how to break formulas apart, understand what Excel is doing, and spot issues. Along the way, we will also look at simple techniques that make your formulas easier to read, easier to check, and far less likely to go wrong in the first place.
Key features covered:
- Understanding and fixing common errors
What errors like #REF!, #VALUE!, and #SPILL! are really telling you, and how to resolve them without guesswork.
- Breaking down complex formulas
How to step through calculations, simplify logic, and make sense of formulas that have become a bit… complicated.
- Auditing and debugging techniques
Practical ways to check your work, including tracing precedents, finding overwritten formulas, reviewing formulas across a sheet, and more.
- Improving formula design
Simple ways to build clearer, more reliable formulas using modern Excel features such as LET and dynamic arrays.
