Navigating the 2024 amendments to IFRS 9 and IFRS 7

One of the four webinars covered in ACCA Hong Kong Accounting Updates Series 2025

Overview

The May 2024 amendments to the financial instruments standards could have a significant impact on many companies. This webinar will explain what they mean to you. Those amendments cover the recognition and derecognition of financial instruments, providing clarifications on the topic and introducing an exception for certain financial liabilities settled using an electronic payment system. There is also new guidance on the classification of financial assets, including those with contingent features such as ESG-linked features.

You can also expect a digest of the December 2024 amendments, which address challenges faced by companies entering into nature-dependent electricity contracts.

The webinar will cover the following:

  • Settling financial liabilities using an electronic payment system
  • Classifying financial assets with contingent features, including ESG-linked features
  • Non-recourse assets and contractually linked instruments
  • Changes to classification-related disclosure requirements
  • Nature-dependent electricity contracts
