This session delves into the ethical dilemmas posed by the increasing prevalence of machine learning algorithms in both professional and societal contexts. Through real-life examples from business and society, participants will explore the ethical challenges of AI, gain insights into its regulation and discuss why professional accountants are uniquely positioned to lead AI governance and policymaking.

 

This session will cover:

  • How to apply ethical principles to AI, using ethical frameworks to navigate and address the dilemmas emerging from AI’s use in various professional settings
  • An evaluation of the role of government in regulating, containing and controlling AI
  • Analysing the role of accountants in AI governance, considering how they can guide the ethical use and oversight of algorithms
  • Practical guidelines for AI regulation, including ten practical steps to help businesses and individuals responsibly implement and monitor AI tools

Being a General Practitioner, it can be difficult to keep abreast of everything, and with the best will in the world, sometimes important changes get missed. This session will go through some of the important VAT changes and case law that have taken place over the last 10 years (given that Covid slowed down the world of change for a few years) so that you have some surety.


This session will cover:

  • Rental of property, including space used for storage, and the interaction of the infamous Errol Willy case
  • VAT on education and private schools, plus a background on education
  • "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and other stories in respect of partial exemption and the Hotel La Tour case
  • A summary of some of the more important general VAT changes and how they affect your clients practically
