New processes for signing into Companies House confirmed

From 13 October 2025 companies will need to use GOV.UK One Login to sign in to their Companies House WebFiling account. This requirement is being enforced prior to the Companies House announcement that, beginning 18 November 2025, all company directors and persons with significant control (PSCs) have to verify their identities through the One Login platform. After this date, all directors will need to include their personal codes on the company’s next confirmation statement.
Key milestones of the rollout
- New directors: must verify their identity before incorporating a company or assuming a directorship
- Existing directors: must confirm their verification by filing their next annual confirmation statement, as part of a 12-month transition phase
- Existing PSCs: required to verify within 12 months, based on an appointed timeline related to their register details
- New PSCs: must verify and file a verification statement within 14 days of their PSC status being recorded.
Once verified, individuals receive a personal code, which they must provide in subsequent filings. This code should be only shared with trusted people (such as accountants) who are engaged to file on their behalf or for their company. From 18 November, Companies House will display verification due dates on its register for all relevant roles.
These identity checks are part of a broader effort under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 to shield the UK business landscape from fraud, strengthen data integrity, and bring greater transparency to corporate governance.
The ID verification is a one-time process that takes only a few minutes. The service has been available voluntarily since 8 April 2025, allowing individuals to verify via One Login or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP).
This ACCA article explains on how to do this verification online. All directors and PSCs must ensure that their details on the Companies House register (such as your date of birth) match the details on the documents they use to verify their identity.
Sharing your personal code
If you are a director only (but not PSC) then you will need to include your personal code on your company’s next confirmation statement from 18 November 2025.
If you are both a director and a person with significant control (PSC) of the same company then you only need to verify your identity once, but you’ll need to provide your personal code separately for each role. As a director, you’ll need to include the code in your company’s confirmation statement.
As a PSC, you must use a separate online service to provide your personal code within 14 days of your company’s confirmation statement date. This service will be available from 18 November 2025. PSCs will also be able to use the service to check their individual 14-day verification due date.
If you’re a PSC but not a director of the same company, then you’ll need to provide your personal code within the first 14 days of your birth month. For example, if your date of birth is 22 December, your 14-day period will begin on 1 December.
Risks of non-compliance
Failure to verify could result in:
- disqualification from submitting filings, or rejection of incorporations
- annotations on the public register, affecting credibility
- fines or potentially even disqualification from directorship.
It is crucial that members act early to avoid disruptions and ensure company filings continue smoothly.
