Tax return information to be pre-populated by HMRC
From 14 July 2026, around 300,000 self-assessment taxpayers will have their or their partner's Child Benefit payment information pre-populated on their online self-assessment tax return. This will make it faster and easier for taxpayers who are liable to pay the High-Income Child Benefit Charge to complete their tax return accurately.
Some taxpayers who only complete a tax return to pay the charge may be able to pay via the PAYE digital service. This service is a simple and easy way for a person to pay the charge monthly via their salary as their tax code will be amended.
More information on eligibility and how to switch is available on GOV.UK.
