Getting help with identity verification

Some customers are contacting Companies House to get help with completing identity verification and filing their confirmation statement.

If you still need help, here are some top tips to help you before contacting Companies House.

Check when you need to file your company’s confirmation statement 

Before you file your next confirmation statement you must: 

check that the details Companies House holds for you and your company are correct 

update your records if any information is incorrect or out of date

make sure every company director has verified their identity and got their Companies House personal code

include the personal code for each director in your company’s confirmation statement.

Your confirmation statement will be rejected if you have not completed these steps  

You will not be able to file your confirmation statement if any of your directors’ dates of birth are incorrect or do not match the details held on the Companies House register. 

If someone else files your confirmation statement, all directors must share their personal codes with them so they can include the details in your company’s filing. 

If you’ve already verified your identity, you do not need to do it again – but you must provide your personal code for each role you hold.  

Company secretaries do not need to verify their identity.  

People with significant control (PSCs)

People with significant control (PSCs) also need to provide their personal code by their due date using a separate service. Check the Companies House register to see the due dates for each role you hold.  

If your company directors are also PSCs of the company, they only need to verify their identity once – but you must provide their personal code twice, once as a director on the confirmation statement, and once as a PSC using the Provide identity verification details for a PSC service. 

You do not need to provide your personal code for any other filings at this time, including annual accounts.

Signing in to the ‘find and update company information’ service

The account you use to sign in to the Find and update company information service is called your Companies House account. 

The sign-in screen changed in late August. GOV.UK One Login will become the main sign-in option.

If you already have an account, you can keep signing in with your existing details for now. This option will be further down the sign-in page. However, all new users will need a GOV.UK One Login to access Companies House services. 

In the future, all users will need to move to GOV.UK One Login. Companies House will give you plenty of notice before that happens.

This change is to the sign-in process only — you are not being asked to verify your identity.
